Willow is an excellent material to create all sorts of sculptures and structures, in school grounds, community spaces, and gardens. We can work with both living willow and brown willow to create many different exciting installations.
Living Willow structures
Living willow is just as it says, living and growing for as long as you want. It is a marvellous material for building play structures of all kinds. Once established it provides a shady, exciting place to be.
We can either just come along and design and build something to fit your needs, or for more involved projects, we can work alongside staff and children,so they can learn how to weave living willow and be part of the process.
The children can also be involved in the planning and design stages, either by active design, model making or drawing.
Maintenance is easy once you know how, and we can tell you what to do, or provide a workshop after the first year of growth, so that your structure can just get better and better! Wands from the second year’s growth will be large enough to harvest and use to create your own masterpieces... the only limit is your imagination!
The planting season is short, between December and the end of March, so if you are thinking of living willow, it's best to start planning early as the dates book up quickly !
We grow our own willow so it is locally sourced.
Brown Willow structures
If you haven't got the grounds for a living willow structure, or you want a project doing outside of the growing season, don't worry, we do "Extreme Basketry"!
We can make a wide variety of structures using many different types of dried ("Brown") willow.
Brown willow dens at 1.5m diameter are exciting areas for small children to explore and play in.
Bespoke screens can brighten up dull areas, or act as a bird watching hide.
Arches can provide a spectacular entrance to a special area
Sculptures can be made of all sorts of creatures from simple fish right through to human forms
In Brown Willow workshops children can be involved making individual items, or help design and build a larger item.
